Abbreviated Series Title The temporal evolution of the nanostructilre of a model Ni-base superalloy (Ni-5.2 at.% Al- 14.2 atoh Cr) is studied experimentally employing three-dimensional atom-probe (3DAP) lnlcroscopy in conjunction with kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulations at 600°C. I1 is demonstrated that not only can the mean compositions of indtvidual y' (NilAI wrth the LI: strucl~rre) precipitates be measured but the NI. Al, and Cr concentration profiles within the precipltares can also he determined for precipitates with a mean radius (<r>) as sniall as 0.85 nm The three asy~nptorict ime dependenc~eso f the L~fshitz-Slyzo\,-Wagner( LSW) theory ol' coarsening (Ostwald ripening) are measured and found to deviate from its theoret~cal predictions: possible explanations for these drscrepancies are discussed. At 0.25 hr, there IS 3DAP microscope evidence for the presence of precipitates of another n~ckel-r~cphh ase. =“NIIC~” (Ni3Crl.,Al,), which exhibits short-range order (SRO) and that is metastable uj~th respect to NiiAl. Th~s metastable phase is also round by KMC simulat~ons and has the composit~on Ni3Crl.,Al,, which is NI-2.91 at.% Al-2 1.98 at.% Cr at 16 hours. Our results denionstrate that the decolnposition of the primary y (FCC) phase results in the concurrent formallon of an ordered phase and a disordered phase by 0.25 hours.
